Last night I had the strangest dream, where everything was exactly as it seemed

“Will you join us for dinner?” my sister asked casually. “Director Best Man will come after you guys finish filming.”

“What’s on the menu?” I asked because lately joining my family for meals is usually dictated by what kind of food is on offer.

“Simple. Salad, steak, good company” she stressed on the last point in such a way that I thought she was trying to guilt me into accepting. She did not have to as I was in a good mood. Plus I knew after a 10 hour work day I would not be inclined to cook my own food.

Later, as Director Best Man was setting up the camera, I overheard him telling Brother In Law that his friend was coming at 8:30. That’s funny I thought. We’ll be going home for dinner round about that time. Then, Brother In Law mentioned that he should try not come much later than that.

So, now Director Best Man’s friend was also coming to dinner. Yet, my sister failed to tell me that. I immediately sensed trouble. My feeling was further supported by the fact that when organizing who was going to give me a lift, they kept pushing for me to go with this elusive friend. At 9 Director Best Man received a cancellation phone call from him. Let me just tell you I have never heard a man beg another man to come out as much as I did in those five minutes.

“No, you have to come….I swear we’ll be home by 11. I know you’re tired, I’m tired too. You don’t want to eat?  You do not have to eat.  Just come for the good company.”

I am now almost certain that my own sister was trying to set me up on a quasi-blind date.
